Some photos sit on a hard drive for months before they make sense together. These nine are from the time we spent in Tokyo: no single event, no plan, just a city where a once-in-a-lifetime car can be parked next to a delivery van.
Two generations of Century
The Toyota Century is Japan's car for people who don't drive themselves. The second generation, the G50 built from 1997 to 2017, carried the 5.0-litre 1GZ-FE: the only production V12 Japan has ever made. Its successor, the G60 from 2018, switched to a 5.0-litre V8 hybrid with 431 PS. In Tokyo you see both every day, usually with someone important in the back.

Italian, at the kerb

A green Lamborghini, which we believe is a Revuelto, the 1,015 CV V12 hybrid Lamborghini launched in 2023, parked at the kerb with its exhausts at eye level. An orange McLaren 12C Spider stopped on a tree-lined avenue with both doors in the air. And from a footbridge, a red Ferrari California T with a tricolore stripe, waiting in traffic between taxis and an Audi.

On two wheels

Not everything fast in Tokyo has four wheels: a red Ducati Panigale leaning through a Tokyo corner, and a bunch of road cyclists racing on a closed street under the ginkgo trees.
Nostalgic 2days

The last two frames are from Nostalgic 2days, the classic car show held at Pacifico Yokohama and organised by publisher Geibunsha (the 2026 edition, the 17th, was on 21 and 22 February). A red Lamborghini Countach, doors up, wearing Mid Night stickers on its windscreen and nose, and a green Toyota 2000GT on a display stand: two of the most valuable shapes in Japanese car culture, in one hall.
