Tokyo Auto Salon 2027: Dates, Guide and the 2026 Show in Numbers

Three days in January when Japanese car culture fills eleven halls at Makuhari Messe. Here's everything for the 2027 show, and what happened at the 2026 edition, which drew more people than the year before.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2027 at a glance

  • Dates: Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 January 2027
  • Venue: Makuhari Messe, Chiba (Halls 1–11, International Conference Hall, Event Hall and Outdoor Arena)
  • Organiser: Tokyo Auto Salon Association (TASA)
  • Edition: the 44th (the show began in 1983 as the Tokyo Exciting Car Show)
  • Tickets: on the official ticket page

Tokyo Auto Salon is where the Japanese aftermarket, the factory tuning houses and the carmakers' own performance brands show what they've been building all year. It is one of the biggest custom car shows in the world, and it sets the tone for the whole season: the kits, wheels and engine swaps you see in Makuhari in January are on the street, and on the drift grids, by summer.

Getting there

Makuhari Messe sits beside Kaihin-Makuhari Station on the JR Keiyo Line, a short walk from the halls. From central Tokyo the Keiyo Line runs from Tokyo Station; from Narita and Haneda airports, plan on changing trains in Tokyo or taking an airport bus to Makuhari. Saturday is the busiest day: in 2026 it brought more than 105,000 people through the doors. If you want space to photograph the cars, aim for opening time or the last hours of Sunday.

Before you travel, check the official site for the 2027 timetable, which days are open to the public and any ticket restrictions. On Friday 9 January 2026 the show opened first to the trade and media, then to premium ticket holders from 2pm, before the public weekend.

What's fuelling TAS 2027

The road to Makuhari runs through a busy autumn. These are the events where the cars, the teams and the stories of the 2027 show are taking shape. Dates come from each organiser's own site; the full list lives in our world automotive calendar.

  • SEMA Show, Las Vegas, 3–6 November 2026. Where Japanese tuners show their latest work to the American market, two months before they bring it home to Makuhari.
  • SUPER GT Grand Final, Mobility Resort Motegi, 6–8 November 2026. The season decider for the GT500 and GT300 teams, many of whom unveil next year's plans at TAS.
  • D1 Grand Prix finale, Odaiba, Tokyo Bay, 14–15 November 2026. The last two rounds of the 2026 D1GP season, in the middle of Tokyo. Our story from the D1GP at Ebisu shows what that championship looks like up close.
  • NISMO Festival and the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Festival at Fuji Speedway. Nissan's and Toyota's fan days traditionally fill the winter calendar before Tokyo Auto Salon; check nismo.co.jp and toyotagazooracing.com for this season's dates. Our NISMO Festival 2023 walkthrough shows what to expect.
  • After TAS: Osaka Auto Messe, INTEX Osaka, 12–14 February 2027. Western Japan's own custom car show, where many TAS cars appear again a month later.

And in Tokyo itself, the scene never stops between shows: the late-night car parks of the Underground Tokyo Meet, the shops of A PIT Autobacs Shinonome, and the streets on our Tokyo night walk.
